Victoria Street Roadway and Trail Conceptual Design Study

One of the early concepts developed for Victoria Street, providing trail access for students at area elementary schools (located just west of the trail) as well as dedicated sidewalks for area residents.

Working as part of a team of consultants, CDG developed multiple concepts for new walking and bicycling trails along Victoria Street for Ramsey County and the cities of Roseville and Shoreview.

This stretch of Victoria Street, roughly paralleling Lexington Avenue between County Road C in Roseville to Cannon Avenue in Shoreview, included a mostly rural (drainage ditch) cross-section and lacked sidewalks and bicycle facilities. Three elementary schools, churches, senior housing, and numerous parks and lakes are located in close proximity to the street. Right-of-way and speed limits varied along the project's length, and there was recorded history of several injury crashes along it.

CDG developed several concepts and alternatives for evaluation, including goals to address improved safety and connectivity for Safe Routes to School for area students. A key goal for CDG's design recommendations was to offer options that invite people of all ages and abilities to safely and comfortably walk and bicycle along the corridor to connect to key destinations.

Interestingly, the work of this study follows the work of two earlier planning efforts completed with CDG participation: the Ramsey Countywide Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan and the Metropolitan County Regional Bicycle System Study.

The preferred alternative selected from the study is expected to move into preliminary and final design sometime in 2025.
